Pathway Christian's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Unity Christian Knights at 6:30 p.m. on January 25th. Hopefully Pathway Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, Pathway Christian was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 48-44 to Galesburg Christian.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Ryker Miller, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Denver Nelson, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Meanwhile, Unity Christian's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 60-40 walloping at the hands of Morning Star Academy. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Unity Christian has suffered since December 4, 2023.
Unity Christian's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Samm Wilbur, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds, and Graham Foust who scored 11 points. That was a full 40% of Unity Christian's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Pathway Christian's loss was their eighth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 6-13. Unity Christian's record is now 1-12.
Thursday's game is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Pathway Christian have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 24.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Unity Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 20.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Pathway Christian strolled past Unity Christian in their previous matchup back in November of 2023 by a score of 57-41. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pathway Christian since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
