Softball Recap: Mariner Beats Cypress Lake for Their Fourth Straight Win

Mariner had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Cypress Lake on Tuesday. The Mariner Tritons blew past the Cypress Lake Panthers 12-1. The Tritons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by ten runs or more this season.

Gabi Winters made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than 11 strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits.

In other batting news, Rylie Moore was a standout: she scored two runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Sidney Kitto, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.

Mariner kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cypress Lake didn't got any hits.

The win was the fourth in a row for Mariner, bringing their record for this year to 4-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Cypress Lake, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mariner will challenge Port Charlotte at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mariner is facing Port Charlotte at the right time seeing as Port Charlotte is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Cypress Lake, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Cypress Lake Panthers take on Estero Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. They have given up an average of 8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
