The Junction City Dragons will take on the Walnut Ridge Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Junction City's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last five games.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Junction City walked away with it. They blew past Manila 52-6 at home. The result was nothing new for Junction City, who have now won six games by 27 points or more so far this season.
Montra Hankton had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 134 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries, and also threw for 160 yards and three touchdowns on only ten passes. Junction City also got help from Dominique Grimes who showed off his sure hands for 88 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, even though Quitman scored an imposing 35 points on Friday, Walnut Ridge still came out on top. Walnut Ridge took down Quitman 54-35. The win was just what Walnut Ridge needed coming off of a 41-20 loss in their prior game.
Walnut Ridge's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Enrique Perez, who rushed for 261 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.0 yards per carry. Robbie Tate also helped out as he racked up 147 rushing yards.
Walnut Ridge's defensive line stepped up as well, laying out the QB six times. River Hancock was especially locked on to Quitman's QB and sacked him twice.
Junction City is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Walnut Ridge, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3.
Everything came up roses for Junction City against Walnut Ridge in their previous matchup back in November of 2014 as the squad secured a 62-8 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Junction City since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
