Corinth Holders has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Fuquay - Varina Bengals at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Fuquay - Varina took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Corinth Holders, who comes in off a win.
On Wednesday, Corinth Holders escaped with a win against South Garner by the margin of a single free throw, 49-48. The victory was all the more spectacular given Corinth Holders' disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 195th, while South Garner is ranked 45th).
Corinth Holders can attribute much of their success to Kamea Davis, who scored 18 points along with nine rebounds, and Darla Lee, who went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 27 points and 2 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lee has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Stromberg, who scored four points along with two blocks.
Fuquay - Varina suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Tuesday. They were dealt a 66-22 loss at the hands of South Garner. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Fuquay - Varina in their matchups with South Garner: they've now lost three in a row.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Fuquay - Varina struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as South Garner racked up 18 assists.
Corinth Holders is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. As for Fuquay - Varina, their loss dropped their record down to 4-14.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's contest: Corinth Holders have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 38.6% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Fuquay - Varina, though, as they've only made 26.7% of their threes per game this season. Given Corinth Holders' sizeable advantage in that area, Fuquay - Varina will need to find a way to close that gap.
Corinth Holders was able to grind out a solid win over Fuquay - Varina when the teams last played back in December of 2023, winning 46-34. The rematch might be a little tougher for Corinth Holders since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
