Cloverdale is a perfect 10-0 against Middletown since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Eagles will head out to take on the Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Cloverdale has four straight wins, Middletown has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Friday, Cloverdale earned a 7-3 victory over Lower Lake.
Camryn Bird made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Charlotte Burchett looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Bella Sanchez was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Lexie Hernandez, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Middletown couldn't beat Clear Lake on Friday even though they stacked four runs on them in the first inning. The Mustangs came up short against the Cardinals, falling 20-5. While the Mustangs didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Cardinals 4-0 in the first period.
Taylor Thompson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Cloverdale's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Middletown, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.
Cloverdale took their win against Middletown when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
