The Glenvar Highlanders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 64-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of Alleghany. While losing is never fun, Glenvar can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 290th, while Alleghany is ranked 117th).
Despite the defeat, Glenvar saw an underclassman step up: Brody Dawyot scored 23 points along with six assists and six rebounds. Dawyot is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 17 or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Reed Hutchison, who scored 14 points.
Glenvar has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. As for Alleghany, they pushed their record up to 16-5 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.
Glenvar will be playing at home against William Byrd at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Glenvar knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully William Byrd likes a good challenge. As for Alleghany, they will head out on the road to take on Floyd County at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
