Union Area had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. Everything went their way against Hopewell as Union Area made off with a 12-1 win.
Mia Preuhs was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 17 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Preuhs was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with a home run and five RBI.
In other batting news, Union Area got a massive performance out of Mallory Gorgacz, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
