Mullen is 8-2 against Anselmo-Merna since December of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Mullen Broncos will be playing at home against the Anselmo-Merna Coyotes at 6:00 p.m. Mullen is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home dating back to last season.
Last Thursday, Mullen earned a 47-36 win over Hyannis.
Mullen can attribute much of their success to Peyton Paxton, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Paxton has scored all season. Georgia Wingebach was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Anselmo-Merna struggled with offensive rebounds on Tuesday (Overton had 14 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Anselmo-Merna fell 46-36 to Overton. Anselmo-Merna has not had much luck with Overton recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Anselmo-Merna's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Makenna Miller, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and five steals, and Rhianen Myers who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds. Miller also posted two+ blocks for the first time this season.
Mullen now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Anselmo-Merna, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.
Thursday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Mullen have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 34.3 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Anselmo-Merna, though, as they've been averaging only 32.8 rebounds per game. Given Mullen's sizeable advantage in that area, Anselmo-Merna will need to find a way to close that gap.
Mullen took a serious blow against Anselmo-Merna in their previous meeting back in December of 2021, falling 74-35. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Mullen was down 42-16.
