Softball Recap: Calvin Gets the Win

Calvin proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by 15) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 victory over the Caddo Magnet Mustangs. That's more bragging rights for the Cougars, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Haley Martin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kyleigh Blundell, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Gianna Conzonere, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

Calvin now has a winning record of 13-12. As for Caddo Magnet, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 17-15.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Calvin will head out to square off against Parkway at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Caddo Magnet, they will venture away from home to face off against Caldwell Parish at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
