Texas City is 1-9 against Santa Fe since March of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Stingarees will host the Indians at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Texas City is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Iowa Colony with a sharp 18-6 victory on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Stingarees needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Texas City got a massive performance out of Trinitey Spencer, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. That's the most runs Spencer has posted since back in February. Khamryn Werdlow was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.
Spencer wasn't the only one making solid contact: Texas City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Santa Fe, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They walked away with a 5-1 win over Friendswood on Friday.
Mallory Richardson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on seven hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Katelynn Torres was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Cecilia Reyes, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Santa Fe's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-12. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Texas City, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 13-9-1.
Texas City might still be hurting after the 14-4 loss they got from Santa Fe in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Stingarees have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
