It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Plaquemine Green Devils had no problem doing just that on Friday. They claimed a resounding 45-0 victory over Albany on the road. The result was nothing new for Plaquemine, who have now won five contests by 28 points or more so far this season.
Plaquemine got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Brandon Smith out in front who rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries. Smith was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 65 yards. Tyrese Mosby was another key contributor, rushing for 123 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries.
The win (which was Plaquemine's sixth in a row) raised their record to 9-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-9 Broadmoor and 3-8 Belaire (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 40.3% over those games). As for Albany, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-6.
Plaquemine will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Iowa. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Louisiana (Iowa is ranked 85th, while Plaquemine is ranked 104th). Albany does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
