The home team had come away the winner the last five times Lake Weir and West Port had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. Lake Weir's pitcher stepped up to hand West Port a 6-0 shutout on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Hurricanes have posted since April 18, 2024.
Not much got past Lyric Hartley, who gave up just two hits and racked up ten Ks to keep West Port off the board. Furthermore, Hartley didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Chapter Jones was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Travis Kiger was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one triple.
Citrus' victory ended an eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-4. As for Lake Weir, their record now sits at 3-7.
Citrus skirted past Lake Weir 6-5 when the teams last played back in May of 2023. Will Citrus repeat their success, or does Lake Weir have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
