The Clarksdale Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. The contest between Clarksdale and Corinth wasn't particularly close, with Clarksdale falling 71-53. While losing is never fun, Clarksdale can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 223rd, while Corinth is ranked 101st).
Xae Mayes was his usual excellent self, scoring 30 points along with five rebounds and three steals for Corinth. Those 30 points set a new season-high mark for him. Roman Patterson was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Clarksdale's loss was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-9. As for Corinth, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 5-5 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clarksdale will be home for the holidays to greet Lafayette at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Lafayette's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three contests. Corinth will be home for the holidays to greet West Point at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
