Woonsocket is 1-7 against Cumberland since November of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Woonsocket Villa Novans will head out on the road to face off against the Cumberland Clippers at 10:00 a.m. The pair have allowed few points on average, (Woonsocket: 16.6, Cumberland: 10.5) so any points scored will be well earned.
Woonsocket's recent rough patch got a bit rougher two weeks ago after their fourth straight loss. They took a 21-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cranston West. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Woonsocket in their matchups with Cranston West: they've now lost four in a row.
Meanwhile, Cumberland and Barrington squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but sadly Cumberland had to settle for second. They fell 28-21 to the Eagles. Cumberland's defeat signaled the end of their 11-game winning streak dating back to last season.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Evan Spencer, who rushed for 137 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 125 yards and a touchdown. Andrew Ray also helped out as he racked up 147 rushing yards.
Woonsocket now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Cumberland, their loss dropped their record down to 10-1.
Things could have been worse for Woonsocket, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 35-20 loss to Cumberland in their previous meeting back in November of 2022. Can Woonsocket avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
