The Lamar Consolidated Mustangs will square off against the Victoria West Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Lamar Consolidated will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
If Lamar Consolidated beats Victoria West with six runs on Thursday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Mustangs narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Victoria East 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mustangs have posted since February 15th.

Kailey Quinn was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Aubree Jones was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Terra Williams was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Victoria West made easy work of Fort Bend Marshall on Tuesday and carried off an 11-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won eight matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Isabella Medina looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and not a single walk).
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kendall Marshall, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Emma Martinez, who scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
Lamar Consolidated pushed their record up to 17-3 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Victoria West, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-12 record this season.
Victoria West's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Lamar Consolidated has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Victoria West, though, as they've been averaging only 3.8 strikeouts. Will Lamar Consolidated keep running through batters, or will the Warriors buck the trend?
