Football Recap: Melrose Piles Up the Points Against Hamilton

Melrose never let their opponents score on Friday. They blew past the Hamilton Wildcats 56-0. Considering the Golden Wildcats have won three matchups by more than 39 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Melrose found their leader in sophomore Thomas Heffner, who threw for 248 yards and four TDs while completing 90% of his passes. Carlos Edwards also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.

Melrose didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Tavarco Jackson and Darrius Baldwin Jr. Jackson got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Special teams was a major factor in the game for Melrose, racking up 12 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Edwards, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

The win (which was Melrose's fifth in a row) raised their record to 5-1. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 5.0 points on average over those games. As for Hamilton, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Melrose is set to challenge their familiar foe Douglass at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Hamilton will take on rival Bolton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
