Cheney RVT has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Harvard Ellis Tech Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Connecticut (Cheney RVT is ranked 108th, while Harvard Ellis Tech is ranked 89th).
Last Thursday, Cheney RVT had to suffer through a rough 41-14 loss at the hands of Norwich RVT. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Cheney RVT in their matchups with Norwich RVT: they've now lost seven in a row.
Cheney RVT's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Janilla Hanson, who scored no points along with 16 rebounds and five steals, and Trinity Hazel who scored 11 points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Hanson grabbed two or more steals.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Cheney RVT struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Harvard Ellis Tech scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They came out on top against Wilcox RVT by a score of 49-42. The victory was just what Harvard Ellis Tech needed coming off of a 39-15 loss in their prior contest.
Cheney RVT's defeat was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-4. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 21.6 points per game. As for Harvard Ellis Tech, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
Cheney RVT ended up a good deal behind Harvard Ellis Tech in their previous meeting back in January, losing 40-22. Can Cheney RVT avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
