The Hendersonville Bearcats will head out on the road to face off against the Brevard Blue Devils at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though East Rutherford scored an imposing 35 points two weeks ago, Hendersonville still came out on top. Hendersonville snuck past East Rutherford with a 41-35 win. The victory was just what Hendersonville needed coming off of a 40-19 loss in their prior contest.
Hendersonville's success was spearheaded by the efforts of JaRon Ward, who threw for 299 yards and three touchdowns, and CJ Landrum, who gained 263 total yards and two touchdowns. Landrum was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 62 yards. Hendersonville also got a significant boost from Hezzie Rudisill, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 80 yards.
Meanwhile, Brevard had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.6 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They blew past Patton 48-0 on the road. The result was nothing new for Brevard, who have now won five matches by 20 points or more so far this season.
Brevard's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Benjamin Kessinger, who threw for 95 yards and three touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes.
Hendersonville's win two weeks ago bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Brevard, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 6-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's match: Hendersonville has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 162.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Brevard struggles in that department as they've been even better at 169.9 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Hendersonville strolled past Brevard in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 by a score of 24-7. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Brevard's Nahshon Griffin, who rushed for 112 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Hendersonville to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
