Basketball Recap: Kenedy Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Tristan Mireles and Derrick Williams

Kenedy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They took a hard 59-45 fall against the McMullen County Cowboys. The Lions lost against the Cowboys in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 63-21 score last time.

Kenedy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Derrick Williams, who went 6 of 11 en route to 16 points and eight rebounds, and Tristan Mireles, who went 6 of 15 on his way to 17 points and three steals. Those 17 points gave Mireles a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Karsen Reyes, who posted seven points.

Kenedy's loss dropped their record down to 1-9. As for McMullen County, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 11-4.

Kenedy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 72-24 win against Non Varsity Tournament Opponent on the 13th. As for McMullen County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 37-21 victory against Natalia on the 13th.
