Not much got past Presley Watters, who gave up just a hit and racked up nine Ks to keep Mission Viejo off the board. Watters has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Olivia Tirsch was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kira Palmer, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Westlake hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Kennedy earned a 7-2 victory over Aquinas on Wednesday.
Emory Cheng spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Katie Torrez, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Sydney Batalon was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.
Kennedy pushed their record up to 13-15 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Westlake, their win bumped their record up to 18-13.
Kennedy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Westlake hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314.
