Emery is 9-1 against North Sanpete since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Spartans will head out on the road to take on the Hawks at 3:00 p.m. Emery is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
On Friday, Emery didn't have quite enough to beat Carbon and fell 5-3.
Beau Stilson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, North Sanpete got the win against Delta on Friday by a conclusive 8-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Hawks.
Hudson Smith made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because North Sanpete is 4-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 6-10 otherwise. Smith was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, North Sanpete got a big performance out of Tyson Guidos, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Aaron Costello was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI.
North Sanpete was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Emery's defeat dropped their record down to 7-17. As for North Sanpete, their record is now 10-12.
Emery was able to grind out a solid win over North Sanpete in their previous matchup back in April, winning 7-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
