DeKalb is on a five-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Huntington North is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Barons will host the Vikings at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. DeKalb is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.6 runs per game this season.
DeKalb's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They walked away with a 4-0 win over Columbia City.
Not much got past Malachi Webb, who gave up just four hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Columbia City off the board. Webb has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Ashten Tuttle was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple was his first of the season. Brady Vince was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Huntington North beat Bellmont 9-5 on Tuesday.
Huntington North also got a great performance from Brayden Gearhart as he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Cruz Kindler, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Brodee Swaidner, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and one double.
Huntington North hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bellmont struck out seven times.
Huntington North's victory bumped their record up to 13-4. As for DeKalb, their win bumped their record up to 13-1.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. DeKalb hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .415. However, it's not like Huntington North struggles in that department as they've averaged .338. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
DeKalb skirted past Huntington North 6-5 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Do the Barons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vikings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
