The Vincennes Rivet Patriots will head out on the road to challenge the Bedford North Lawrence Stars at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Bedford North Lawrence will be up against a hot Vincennes Rivet squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. Everything went the Patriots' way against North Central on Friday as they made off with a 19-12 win.
The team relied heavily on Brody (Bo) Shots, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.
Bedford North Lawrence came out on top against Paoli on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run first inning. The Stars were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Rams. The victory was familiar territory for the Stars, who have now won four matches in a row.
Cam Gates spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits.
At the plate, Jaden Gilbert was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Cal Gates, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Bedford North Lawrence always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Paoli only posted an OBP of .280.
Vincennes Rivet pushed their record up to 15-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Bedford North Lawrence, their record now sits at 16-6.
Vincennes Rivet suffered a grim 8-1 defeat to Bedford North Lawrence when the teams last played back in May of 2016. Can the Patriots avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
