Even though the Delta Eagles have not done well against the Wapahani Raiders recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Delta sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 42-40 victory over Wapahani. For Delta, this counts as revenge for the 48-35 loss Wapahani walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2023.
Delta found their leader in underclassman Jillian Barr, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. Barr hasn't dropped below two blocks for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Paizley Cool, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
Delta now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Wapahani, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-5.
Delta will be playing in front of their home fans against Jay County at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Jay County is coming into the contest hot, having won their last 13 games. Wapahani is on the road again on Wednesday and play against Monroe Central at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th. Monroe Central is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home.
