The Shepaug Valley Spartans will head out on the road to take on the Nonnewaug Chiefs at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Shepaug Valley was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Terryville on Thursday. The Spartans' pitcher stepped up to hand the Kangaroos a 21-0 shutout. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Spartans as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

The team relied heavily on Hayden Fisher, who fired off two home runs, eight RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. Those eight RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lexi Thomas, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with five runs, two stolen bases, and one double.
Shepaug Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .737. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Nonnewaug strolled into their game on Wednesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They put the hurt on Gilbert with a sharp 19-1 win.
Scarlett Ivey made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Nonnewaug got a massive performance out of Elizabeth Boisits, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases and four runs. Gianna DeLorenzo was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Shepaug Valley's record now sits at 6-8. As for Nonnewaug, they pushed their record up to 13-0 with the victory, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Shepaug Valley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Nonnewaug struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Shepaug Valley might still be hurting after the 18-2 defeat they got from Nonnewaug when the teams last played back in April. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
