Huntington hasn't had much luck against Westfall recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Huntsmen will be playing at home against the Mustangs at 5:15 p.m. Huntington is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.4 runs per game this season.
Huntington took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Chesapeake with a sharp 24-4 victory. The win continues a trend for the Huntsmen in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won three in a row.
Leah McCloskey was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, earning one RBI and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since April 1st.
In other batting news, Huntington got a massive performance out of Savannah Bushatz, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Bushatz has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Allie Baker, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Huntington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .763. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Westfall and Adena, and Westfall kept the tradition alive. The Mustangs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the Warriors on Wednesday.
Westfall's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Gabby Henry, who went 1-for-2 with two runs.
Westfall's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Huntington, their victory bumped their record up to 8-9.
