Football Recap: Grace Piles Up the Points Against Carpinteria

Grace won the last time they faced Carpinteria and things went their way on Friday too. The Lancers took their game with ease, bagging a 52-20 win over the Warriors. With the Lancers ahead 34-7 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Grace's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but RIley Williams led the charge by throwing for 251 yards and three TDs, while also rushing for 90 yards and one touchdown on only six carries. Williams' passing game has become a key predictor of the Lancers' success: the team is 3-1 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise. Another back making a difference was Jake Williams, who rushed for 167 yards and one score while picking up 8.8 yards per carry.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Grace was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 280 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.

Another reason for the win was Grace's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. TJ Moore was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. Moore is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least seven every time he's taken the field this season. Landon Cooper got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Grace now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Carpinteria, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 2-4.

Looking ahead, Grace will take on Nordhoff at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Rangers will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last. As for Carpinteria, they will square off against Del Sol at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Warriors will be up against the Jaguars' rather soft defense (which has allowed 44.17 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
