5A District 8 recap Oct. 9, 2012
Blake and Middleton played the most hotly contested game in 5A District 8 this week, with Blake eventually emerging with a 40-34 victory. DeAndre James ran for 171 yards and caught one passes for 75 yards in the win.
The Yellowjackets' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Richard Newton helped Blake's passing attack out by catching one ball for two yards.
John Franklin made the biggest impact on defense this week as Blake topped the Tigers. The 6-foot-0 defensive end forced one fumble, recorded one fumble and grabbed 1.0 sack.
Kristian Robinson put up the best numbers through the air as the Yellowjackets bested Middleton. He finished with five completions for 79 yards and one touchdown.
On the ground, Jesuit's Kevin Newman has rushed for 604 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Brian Barr. The Spoto star has 12 catches for 250 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Robinson takes on Gibbs. As it stands, the Knights are in first, while the Gladiators are in fifth.
Blake made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,967 from 6,481. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 40-34 victory over the Tigers last week.
