If the South Amboy Governors were feeling good off their 40-11 takedown of the East Brunswick Bears last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. South Amboy took a 35-19 bruising from Dunellen on Monday. While losing is never fun, South Amboy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 334th, while Dunellen is ranked 145th).
Dunellen found their leader in underclassman Brielle Villanueva-Jadotte, who scored eight points along with 16 rebounds. Villanueva-Jadotte continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Wendy Woll, who scored eight points along with 12 rebounds and two steals.
South Amboy's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 4-10. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.0 points per game. As for Dunellen, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.
South Amboy will head out on the road to square off against Keyport at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Dunellen, they will be playing at home against Timothy Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
