Minisink Valley and Valley Central are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Warriors will head out to face off against the Vikings at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Minisink Valley is headed into Thursday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game dating back to last season on Wednesday. They took a 15-11 hit to the loss column at the hands of Washingtonville.
Dylan Acevedo made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Christopher McCauley was another key player, going 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Meanwhile, while Valley Central put up some runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Monticello. The Vikings were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Panthers. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Caleb Swart was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Swart was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Valley Central let Darren Russo and Ryan Tejeda run wild. Russo went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI, while Tejeda scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Valley Central hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monticello struck out 12 times.
Minisink Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Valley Central, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Minisink Valley was able to grind out a solid win over Valley Central in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 12-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
