Jaylynn Quintana made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched seven innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2025. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Raton got a massive performance out of Paige Lemons, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Lemons has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Haydyn Middlebrook, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Clovis hadn't done well against Portales recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 17-5 margin over the Rams. The Wildcats not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 22, 2025 (when they won 19-7).
Clovis let Evelyn Rico and Amor Soto run wild. Rico went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Soto went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Rico is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalia Munoz, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Clovis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .656. Their OBP was a full 0 higher than the also-impressive .516 that Portales posted.
Clovis' first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Raton, their win bumped their record up to 2-0.
Raton suffered a grim 16-6 defeat to Clovis in their previous matchup back in March of 2023. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
