Sadly, Chanute Christian are still looking for their first win of the season after nine games. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 61-41 walloping at the hands of Newton HomeSchool on Saturday. Chanute Christian was down 50-27 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Jaquale Schumm was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 28 points and 16 rebounds for Newton HomeSchool. Schumm is crushing the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Alex Bungard was another key contributor, scoring 23 points along with three steals.
Chanute Christian dropped their record down to 0-9 with that loss, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.6 points per game. As for Newton HomeSchool, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-10.
Chanute Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Newton HomeSchool, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Reno County HomeSchool at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
