Softball Recap: Summer Creek Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Victory

Summer Creek came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.2 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Goose Creek Memorial Patriots an 11-0 shutout. Considering the Bulldogs have won 12 games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Torie Turner made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alyson Johnson, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. Elaina Bonuelos was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Summer Creek's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.4 runs on average over those games. As for Goose Creek Memorial, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 18-11 record this season.

Summer Creek will head out to take on Humble at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.5 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Goose Creek Memorial, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Channelview at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Patriots are facing the Falcons at the right time seeing as the Falcons are stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
