Having struggled with seven defeats in a row, Walnut turned things around against Rowland on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Raiders a 10-0 shutout. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Mustangs' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Cynthia P made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. P was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Paloma P, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3. She also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season. Teri W was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
Walnut was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Bonita got the win against Claremont on Tuesday by a conclusive 11-4. The victory continues a trend for the Bearcats in their matchups with the Wolfpack: they've now won six in a row.
Skyy Hicks and Koa Puppe did most of the damage at the plate: Hicks went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Puppe went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. What's more, Hicks posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Leah Reynolds, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-9. As for Bonita, their record now sits at 10-5.
Walnut suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to Bonita in their previous matchup last Monday. Can Walnut avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
