It was a good run, but the Christian Brothers Falcons unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They took a hard 86-69 fall against Capital Christian. While losing is never fun, Christian Brothers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 220th, while Capital Christian is ranked 66th).
Christian Brothers lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Stephan Hewitt, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Shawn Underwood Jr., who scored 11 points along with six steals.
It was another big night for Jaylen Valdez, who scored 26 points along with four steals for Capital Christian. Valdez has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was CJ Willenborg, who scored 15 points along with five assists and two steals.
Christian Brothers' loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-12. As for Capital Christian, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Christian Brothers will take on Ponderosa at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Ponderosa focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday. As for Capital Christian, they will be playing at home against Granite Bay at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Capital Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 18 matchups -- so hopefully Granite Bay likes a good challenge.
