On Wednesday, the Coolidge Colts faced the Dunbar Crimson Tide in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Coolidge walked away with a 73-60 victory over Dunbar. The victory was familiar territory for Coolidge who now have four in a row.
Leading Coolidge to victory were Makiah Gray and Quintin Cooper. Gray dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds, while Cooper scored 27 points along with five assists and five rebounds. The game was Cooper's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Eric Turner was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with eight rebounds and five steals.
Dunbar's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was D'Mitric Starke, who scored 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Russell, who scored 14 points.
Coolidge's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Dunbar, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Coolidge will be home for the holidays to greet KIPP DC Legacy College Prep on Monday. Dunbar will be home for the holidays to greet Rich Township at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
