Brookings had to travel to play their first game of the season, and the final result was worth the trip. They won a contest that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by Yankton 24-23. Having pegged this as anyone's game, the MaxPreps rankings were right on the nose.
Last Saturday, Mitchell couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They found themselves the relunctant recipients of an unpleasant 19-40 punch to the gut against Watertown.
Brookings's win lifted them to 1-0 while Mitchell's loss dropped them down to 0-1. We'll find out if Brookings can add another positive mark to their record or if Mitchell can shake off the loss and take the spring out of Brookings's step.
