MEXIA, Texas -
Fairfield (Texas) grabbed a lead in the first quarter and rode that momentum to a 44-0 win over Mexia (Texas).
The Eagles put up 14 points in the opening frame. Fairfield scored on a touchdown run by
Andre Welch and a
Larry Rose touchdown run.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by Welch in the first quarter, FHS led 21-0 at the half.
The Eagles expanded their lead to 42 points entering the fourth quarter. Fairfield scored three times in the third, including once on a touchdown run by Welch.
Welch stood out for FHS in the win. The senior ran for three touchdowns. He has now scored 10 touchdowns on the season.
The Eagles entered the contest giving up 25.4 points per game this year.
When the two teams played each other last season, Fairfield came away with a 33-3 victory.
With the win FHS extended its winning streak to three games.
Mexia (0-8) goes up against Palestine in a 3A Region III District 19 game matchup next week, while Fairfield (6-3) locks horns with Palestine also in a 3A Region III District 19 game.
