AISA AA Region 1 recap October 1, 2013
R.J. McDonald and Steven Stuntz provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Hooper Academy. The connection went for 72 yards, the longest such play in AISA AA Region 1 this season.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Edgewood Academy beat Autauga Academy 24-21. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
Springwood's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. McDonald threw for 97 yards and Stuntz had 72 yards receiving. On the ground Maurice Fears chipped in 167 yards.
The Wildcats' dynamic duo of McDonald and Stuntz proved to be unstoppable against the Colts, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Fears was a passing and rushing force as Springwood fell to Hooper Academy.
Edgewood Academy's Taylor Hawthorne and Josh Crawford led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Hawthorne has thrown for 1,183 yards this season, while Crawford, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 24 catches for 365 yards. Fears from Thomas Hill's team leads the league in rushing with 770 yards.
A big matchup in AISA AA Region 1 this week will be when Bobby Carr's team takes on Coosa Valley Academy. The Wildcats are in first place, while the Rebels are in third place.
Evangel Christian Academy fell to Kingwood Christian 33-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Q Vickers threw for 95 yards and ran for 12 yards in the defeat.
