Hopkinsville and University Heights are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Tigers are taking a road trip to face off against the Blazers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
Hopkinsville came up short against Northeast on Friday, falling 10-4.
Hopkinsville saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chase Fort, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That stolen base was Fort's first of the season. Another was Layton Lindsey, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, University Heights entered their tilt with Crittenden County on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Rockets with a sharp 11-1 victory.
Ryan Luckey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Luckey was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Cadence Gibson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Pace, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
University Heights always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Crittenden County only posted an OBP of .304.
University Heights' win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Hopkinsville, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.
Hopkinsville couldn't quite get it done against University Heights in their previous meeting back in March as they fell 4-1. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
