Softball Game Preview: New Palestine Dragons vs. Munster Mustangs

New Palestine is a perfect 3-0 against Munster since May of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Dragons are taking a road trip to take on the Mustangs at 10:00 a.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (New Palestine 2, Munster 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

While New Palestine's win against Pendleton Heights wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Dragons had just enough and edged out the Arabians 4-3. The Dragons haven't had any issues with the Arabians recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Sadey Hughbanks spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on nine hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kylee Beranek, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 12 matchups.

Meanwhile, Munster entered their tilt with Highland on Wednesday with 13 consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 14. They blew past the Trojans 12-1. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.

Munster pushed their record up to 22-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for New Palestine, their win bumped their record up to 20-2.

New Palestine was able to grind out a solid victory over Munster in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 3-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dragons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
