Baseball Recap: Currituck County Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Currituck County, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Camden County Bruins on Friday. This was a revenge game for the Knights: when they faced off against the Bruins last Wednesday, they had to take a 6-5 defeat.

Dom Doran and Mason Beliles were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Doran tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Beliles pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Doran scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2, while Beliles scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. Those two runs gave Beliles a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jake McClanan was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Dom Espinoza, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.

Currituck County now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Camden County, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 5-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Currituck County will challenge Manteo at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Currituck County's pitchers better be ready for this one: Manteo has averaged an impressive 9.7 runs per game this season. As for Camden County, they will square off against First Flight at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. First Flight has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.63 runs per game on average), something Camden County will no doubt try to take advantage of.
