Basketball Recap: Friday's Victory Is Ironton's Third in Last Four Outings

If Expression Prep Academy wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Ironton, they should've done a better job of containing Braden Schreck. The Ironton Fighting Tigers walked away with a 70-57 victory over the Expression Prep Academy Lions on Friday thanks in part to Schreck, who went 6-for-9 from beyond the arc on his way to 24 points and five boards. The matchup was his sixth in a row with at least 18 points.

Ashton Layne was another key player, going 5-for-10 to rack up 13 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists. Those five assists gave him a new career-high.

Despite the defeat, Expression Prep Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Mitchell Cox went 6-for-14 en route to 25 points and seven boards. Another player making a difference was Rasheed Morrison, who went 5-for-11 on his way to 13 points.

Ironton is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.0 points over those games. Expression Prep Academy is on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-14.

Ironton didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 48-47 win against Rock Hill on the 15th. As for Expression Prep Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 61-51 loss against South Point on the 15th.
