The Mattoon Green Wave had a rough go of it last December when they matched up with the Taylorville Tornadoes and had to endure more of the same on Tuesday. Mattoon found themselves the reluctant recipients of an unpleasant 77-54 punch to the gut against Taylorville. The Green Wave's loss continues a disappointing trend for the team, making it three in a row.
The defeat dropped the Green Wave's record to 9-14. The win -- their third in a row -- raised Taylorville's record to 13-12.
The Green Wave have the luxury of staying at home another game and will welcome Mt. Zion Friday. Mt. Zion is looking for a pick-me-up after a 70-27 blowout loss to Lincoln. Taylorville is on the road again Friday and plays against Mahomet-Seymour. Mahomet-Seymour has averaged 78.67 points over the course of their past three games, so Taylorville might be in for a challenge.
