Basketball Recap: Phoenix Montessori Academy Comes Up Short

After flying high against Winston Salem Christian on Friday, Phoenix Montessori Academy came back down to earth. The Firebirds lost 89-63 to the Combine Academy National Goats on Saturday. The contest marked the Firebirds' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Despite the loss, Phoenix Montessori Academy still got an impressive performance from Malik McCotter, who went 8-for-19 on his way to 21 points along with seven steals and six assists. Darrion Ellis was another key player, shooting 42% from the field en route to 11 points.

With the defeat, Phoenix Montessori Academy broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-3. As for Combine Academy National, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Phoenix Montessori Academy will head out to challenge Non Varsity Opponent at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Combine Academy National, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Webb at 9:00 p.m. on December 12.
