Basketball Recap: Pinecrest Takes a Loss

Pinecrest was the 50-49 winner over Lumberton when they last played one another back in February of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. The Pinecrest Patriots took a 51-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lumberton Pirates on Friday. The Patriots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Pinecrest lost, don't look at Aniya McGregor. Despite the final result, she went 7 for 16 on her way to 22 points and four steals. Those 22 points gave McGregor a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabrielle Donze, who posted six points and three steals.

Andrea Brown continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Lumberton, almost dropping a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. The matchup was Brown's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Gabryell Locklear was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Pinecrest's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Lumberton, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.

Pinecrest will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Providence at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. After both having extra time off, Lumberton and Jack Britt will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. The timing isn't great for Jack Britt: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Lumberton has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
