Baseball Game Preview: Lyons Lions vs. Flatirons Academy Bison

Lyons is a perfect 3-0 against Flatirons Academy since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Lions will take on the Bison at 4:30 p.m. Lyons has given up an average of 7.5 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Lyons came into their game on Monday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against The Academy, falling 17-9.

Lyons saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zack LaCrosse, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. The Lions are 3-1 when LaCrosse posts two or more runs, but 0-4 otherwise. Another was Calvin Russell, who scored a run while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Flatirons Academy came up short against Dawson School on Tuesday and fell 7-3. The contest marked the Bison's lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Flatirons Academy fell to 8-1. As for Lyons, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lyons has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Flatirons Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Lyons came out on top in a nail-biter against Flatirons Academy in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, sneaking past 5-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
