Bureau Valley has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on The Morrison Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bureau Valley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 245th, while Morrison is ranked 101st).
Bureau Valley never got on the board in their last matchup, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Aurora Central Catholic last Friday. Bureau Valley blew past Aurora Central Catholic 67-19 at home. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Bureau Valley had established a 41 point advantage.
Bureau Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cameron Lemons led the charge by rushing for 165 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries. Lemons was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 57 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Endress, who rushed for 136 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.0 yards per carry.
Meanwhile, after only seven points in their last match, Morrison made sure to put some points up on the board against Riverdale on Friday. Morrison took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 51-6 win over Riverdale. The result was nothing new for Morrison, who have now won five contests by 26 points or more so far this season.
Their wins bumped Bureau Valley to 4-4 and Morrison to 7-1.
Bureau Valley took a serious blow against Morrison in their previous meeting back in October of 2019, falling 42-0. Can Bureau Valley avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
