The Coronado Cougars entered their tilt with the Elizabeth Cardinals with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Coronado came out on top against the Cardinals by a score of 44-35 on Friday. Coronado pushed the score to 40-19 by the end of the third, a deficit the Cardinals cut but never quite recovered from.
Leading Coronado to victory were Bella Martinez and Dayshanay Bruner. Martinez scored 15 points, while Bruner scored eight points along with ten rebounds and five assists. Bruner is crushing the block category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
When it comes to explaining why Elizabeth lost, one person who can't be blamed is Deb Flipse. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 13 points and 16 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Flipse has scored all season.
Coronado's win bumped their record up to 7-11. As for Elizabeth, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Coronado will take on the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Elizabeth, they will be playing at home against the Titans at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
