Moriah is 10-0 against Northeastern Clinton since December of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Moriah Vikings' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Northeastern Clinton Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on January 22nd. Hopefully Moriah is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Northeastern Clinton in New York (Moriah is ranked 80th, while Northeastern Clinton is ranked 442nd).
Last Friday, Moriah narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Saranac 54-52. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points Moriah has scored all year.
Moriah's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dieter Olcott, who scored four points along with ten rebounds and eight steals. Olcott is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Joe Pelkey was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Meanwhile, Northeastern Clinton beat Ticonderoga 55-45 on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back wins for Northeastern Clinton.
Northeastern Clinton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jordan Brown led the charge by scoring 13 points. Another player making a difference was Logen Magoon, who scored ten points.
Moriah's win was their 12th straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-0. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 20.92 points. As for Northeastern Clinton, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-6 record this season.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Moriah and Northeastern Clinton are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Moriah hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 64.2 points per game. However, it's not like Northeastern Clinton struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 54.3 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Moriah strolled past Northeastern Clinton in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 by a score of 57-43. Does Moriah have another victory up their sleeve, or will Northeastern Clinton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
